A Space To Relax

The client had to spend a lot of time at home following an illness, and wanted a relaxing, nature-filled retreat that could also be enjoyed from indoors on the days when getting outside wasn’t an option.

Gravel has been used to keep things looking soft and natural, but put in a retaining system to make it easier to walk on. Two seating areas provide space to enjoy both the morning, and evening sun. A simple Corten steel water bowl attracts wildlife, and provides a drink and a bath for visiting birds.

Matching edging on the beds supplies a contemporary touch. Nearer the house the same material is used for impressive cube planters, and teamed with oversized blue ceramic vases for a burst of strong colour.

Apart from some feature trees and shrubs the planting is an informal mix of ornamental grasses, colourful perennials, and spring bulbs, which will develop over time to form an impressive display throughout the seasons.
